Overview
Grievance handling at the work environment refers to the process of addressing, resolving and managing complaints or concerns raised by employees within an organization. These grievances may arise from workplace issues such as unfair treatment, conflicts with coworkers or supervisors, wage disputes, workplace safety concerns, or violations of company policies.
An effective grievance handling mechanism ensures that employees' issues are addressed promptly, fairly and transparently, fostering a positive work environment and maintaining employee morale.
This ½ day workshop provides an examination and discussion into key laws and issues that surround workplace complaint management, and also explore the connection between the grievance process and the due inquiry process. Participants will enhance their knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of workplace complaint management and due inquiries, minimise legal risks and ensure legal compliance.
Event Detail
During this ½ day session, participants will be guided on the following :
1. Overview of key laws and tripartite guidelines/advisories (including rules on fair employment practices, the upcoming workplace fairness laws, and flexible working arrangements, and how they can cause tension)
2.Understanding common employer-employee conflicts; and how they turn into complaints/grievances (e.g. performance management, bullying and sexual harassment, age discrimination, etc)
3.Creating a sound grievance policy to manage employee feedback and grievances and understanding the legal pitfalls
- Educating the ground (including creating the proper environment for awareness and use of the grievance process; and training stakeholders on the proper use of the grievance process)
- Managing the process (including investigating complaints, responding to affected persons, implementing follow-up actions, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring proper documentation
- Understanding the different roles (including the role of report recipient, persons investigating, persons involved in due inquiry, and unions)
4. Understanding how the grievance process is linked to the due inquiry process
5. Adopting practical and legal best practices to foster a positive work environment and anticipate and manage employee-employer conflicts
6. Interactive case studies
(Participants are encouraged to take this opportunity to consult/discuss with the trainer on their organisation's grievance policies and processes)

At the end of the workshop, participants would be able to understand :
- the key areas of the law that that are commonly related to workplace complaints and grievances
- the requirements to implement a strong grievance handling policy
- the legal pitfalls involved in the grievance handling process
- the practical and legal best practices as pre-emptive measures to manage employee-employer conflicts
