RISE - Making Sense Of Data Analytics To Gain Insight

This is a
day virtual learning programme. Upon successful registration and payment, registrants will be sent a web link and access details of the workshop.

Overview

The massive amount of data being harvested every single day is ever increasing and it is fast replacing oil as the world's most valuable resource. Tech titans - Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google and Microsoft (collectively known as FAANGM) have exceeded US$3 trillions in combined market value. Their source of wealth comes directly from their ability to apply analytics on their massive data troves that allows them to capture enormous economic gains.

This hands-on workshop endeavours to equip learners with the essentials of R programming, a powerful statistical and machine learning tool at the heart of data science and data analytics. Participants will learn how to use R to tease out hidden patterns in the data, generate insights and unlock its value. This workshop is designed to illustrate how to perform market segmentation using cluster analysis, an AI/machine learning algorithm. Additionally, participants will also acquire the skill sets to visualise and communicate insights to stakeholders using ggplot2, a powerful data visualisation library in R. This twin-combination of cluster analysis with data visualisation can facilitate effective storytelling on the derived insights for better decision making.

Course Outline

1. Introduction of Data Analytics
- Installation of R & R Studio; Registration of R Studio Cloud

2. Manipulate, clean and enrich raw data into more usable formats
-
Introduce Basic R manipulations and data basic structures (Part I & II)

3. Using R for data wrangling
-
clean up and prepare data for analysis
- filter data based on certain given conditions
- apply these discussed concepts to process and analyse a real-world data set (case study)

4. Using R for data visualisation
- use proper visualisation tools to analyse, derive and communicate insights
- create common visualisation plots using GGplot2
- apply these discussed concepts to analyse a real-world data set (case study)

5. Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML)
- how these new technologies affect data collection and analysis work
- discover hidden patterns in the enriched data set

6. Understanding k-means cluster analysis
- applying k-means clustering and data visualisation to perform market segmentation and sense making on a real-world data set (case study)
- connect the dots, interpret and derive actionable insights to facilitate better decision making

Note: Participants are expected to download and install FREE data analysis tools and R software into their computer during this workshop

Learning Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants would be able to :

- generate enriched data from a real world raw data set
- perform cluster analysis on the processed data set to find viable market segments
- visualise the results of cluster analysis and communicate the insights to stakeholders

Who Would Benefit

Senior / Managers or working level executives who are in strategic planning roles, who need to seek a technical understanding of data analytics using machine learning algorithms, or merely looking to transform their data presentation skills to make a corporate boardroom impact.

Meet The Trainer

Andy Tai
MSoSc (NUS), Bsc (LSE), Data Science (JHU)

Andy has over 20 years of work experience in many establishments, including startups and government bodies. In those roles, he has been involved in analysing growth potential of Infocomm companies, assisted and supported many startups, SMEs and MNCs in their digitalisation initiatives. In addition, he has personally coached, account managed and invested in promising startups while they were still being incubated in one of Singapore's renowned incubation ecosystems, including BLOCK71 Singapore (an initiative by NUS Enterprise to build technology-focused ecosystem).

As a proficient trainer in data science and data analytics, Andy delivers analytics courses at many educational institutions, private and public schools that focus on business insights and macroeconomic trend analysis. By incorporating these into real-world perspectives as case studies, this has helped many learners adapt their classroom learning into real practice. Aside from data science and other quantitative training, he has also obtained WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) with the qualification to guide, coach and train adult learners.
