The NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies, a joint initiative between the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), Africa Business Group (AfBG) and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), has developed a breakfast series during which topics of relevance for Africa and those interested in Africa will be addressed. Experts in their fields will be invited to convey their points of view. The African Angle is presented bi-monthly at a breakfast session.

Africa has been in focus for various Singaporean companies, with great success. One such company is Aluzinc Asia. Aluzinc Asia plays a pivotal role in furnishing superior construction related ideas and products, primarily targeting the replacement roofing segment by sourcing from developed markets and selling into developing markets across Africa and South America. The key to Aluzinc Asia’s growth has been its strategic partnerships with Japanese, Chinese and Indian manufacturers thereby ensuring that they are continuously providing the latest innovations and superior products. Given the fast growing middle class and a strong urbanization trend, Africa presents both opportunities and challenges that can be quite formidable. In this session, Mr Navin Ravindran, Vice President- Sales of Aluzinc Asia, will present his views on the challenges and opportunities for doing business in Africa.

Attendees can expect to gain insights into the following:

  • Why Africa?
  • Challenges and opportunities
  • Value chain activities
  • Reasons for success
  • Lessons learnt from mistakes
  • Lessons for entrepreneurs wanting to expand into Africa
