Opportunities in ASEAN Smart Cities Project (Geospatial)

ASEAN Members States (AMS) recognise the need for urbanisation to embark on a Smart Nation journey to make cities more liveable and sustainable, and to improve citizens’ lives. Singapore, as Chair for ASEAN in 2018, launched the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), with the theme of “Resilience and Innovation” to identify digital solutions for rapid urbanisation, deliver integrated responsive public services and maximise job opportunities.

The collective ASEAN vision of a smart city captured in the ASEAN Smart Cities Framework has identified 26 ASEAN cities for collaboration, investment and forged partnerships with the public and private sectors to kickstart the implementation. In this context, geographical and information systems or GIS-enabled tools hold an important implementation tool that enable cities to plan and coordinate among agencies more productively and efficiently. The impact of each decision may be small but it has a large positive on the overall quality of the whole community.

This seminar aims to provide an overview for Smart Cities projects relating to Geospatial which has close collaboration with city government, involving projects from ASCN and other smart cities projects in ASEAN. Mayor Bernard Faustino La Madrid Dy of Cauayan City from Philippines, Mr Setiaji from Head of the Jakarta Smart City and Prof. Dr. Suhono Supangkat, President of Smart Indonesia Initiatives Association from Indonesia will share more on their approach and opportunities in their city-specific projects.
