Overview
(In a report published by the World Bank, ASEAN’s economy is expected to grow on an average of 5.2% annually over the next five years. In addition, the recent US-China trade war may have hindered global growth, but it also ironically offers opportunities for ASEAN, which Singapore SMEs will look to take advantage of. The ability to secure financing will be a key to ease the path for SMEs to grow and venture abroad, however only 60% of SMEs in the ASEAN region have access to bank loans and around 50% are unserved or underserved by financial institutions. Tighter covenant enforcement and tough credit requirements mean that many are growing increasingly receptive to alternative sources of funding.
During this session, our panellists will discuss about how SMEs can address various challenges and difficulties when venturing into ASEAN by looking into different supply chain and alternative financing options that are available in the ASEAN region for cash flow to bridge their working capital needs.
