  • [SSG-Funded Course] Execute Succession Planning Strategies for the Organisation

Overview

Succession planning is a crucial strategic imperative that underpins the long-term viability and success of any organisation. It involves the systematic identification, development, and preparation of internal talent to assume key leadership roles, ensuring seamless transitions and sustained organisational performance.

In today's dynamic business landscape, the absence of robust succession planning can have significant repercussions. For instance, only 35% of organisations have a formalised succession planning process for critical roles, despite 86% of leaders believing it's an “urgent” and “important” priority. This gap often leads to costly external hires – where 60% of executives fail within the first 18 months of being promoted or hired, and companies lose substantial market value during poorly managed transitions (some estimates suggest up to $1 trillion annually across the S&P 1500). Furthermore, 80% of employees indicate they would stay longer at a company where succession planning extended beyond leadership roles, highlighting its impact on retention and engagement.

This course is designed to equip learners with the essential knowledge and practical abilities to develop and implement effective succession strategies. Participants will explore various models, methodologies, and tools used in modern succession planning, understanding how to strategically integrate these initiatives into broader talent management programs. By focusing on alignment with the organisation’s strategic direction and priorities, this program will empower participants to build a resilient leadership pipeline that safeguards against unforeseen disruptions and drives continuous growth. Learners must complete 3 sessions as stated on those dates.
