Overview

This 1-day workshiop is designed to provide an understanding of the Shipping Documentation:

For new entrants to the logistics industry, it will be a good opportunity to learn about the importance of shipping documentation and its consequences if it is not done properly

For practitioners in the logistics industry, it will enable them to clear doubts about some aspects in shipping documentation.

For the merchants, it will help them to understand how shipping documents are processed and the carrier’s requirements in exports and imports.

Event Detail

Review of the trading process and types of documents used for both exports and imports.

Differentiate shipping terms and Incoterms.

1.Shipper’s obligations in giving accurate cargo information in the b/l.

2.Review some important clauses behind the b/l on limits of liability, delays, and time-bar

3.Differentiate the types of bills of lading and their usage e.g. non-negotiable b/l, negotiable b/l and sea waybill, and switched b/l.

4.Case studies and practical exercises on proper cargo delivery, preparing bills of lading in accordance with shipper’s or buyer’s requirements, shipping line clauses on the b/l.

Programme/Agenda

Trainer Profile:

Mr Tan Tee Hwa has been involved in training of logisticians for the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA) under the Diploma in International Freight Management and the Advanced Diploma in International Transport Management over the last 30 years. He was a member of Curriculum Committee, Institute of Technical Education on Integrated Logistics Management Course, and a Lecturer in Institute of Technical Education in the Integrated Logistics Management Programme.
He was also the main contributor to the Practitioner’s Definitive Guide on Seafreight Forwarding published by the SLA.

He has more than 35 years’ experience in the shipping and logistics industry which included operational, commercial, planning and management positions. He has worked in companies such as the Port of Singapore Authority (8 years), Neptune Orient Line (2 years), Singapore Shipping Corporation (7years), ABC Containerline BV (6 years), C. Steinweg Warehousing (5 years), Active Logistics (3 years), CTS Resources (4 years) and Pacorini Global Services (2.5 years).
